Feeding at the Tumblr Trough

CYBERSPACE, 11 March – in a world of 7 billion souls, is it reasonable, is it possible at all, to expect to have “unique” ideas? To be “creative?” When the Art History PhD’s helming MOMA or the Tate or the global culture institution of your choice “reblog” 20th centuriers like Jackson Pollock or 21st centurions like Mike Kelley, the trough they semi-communally feed at may be a different one than the trough of internet memes that peeps like Tumblr users reblog from, yet aren’t prestigious museum curators and ordinary public Tumblrers each reblogging from their own parallel troughs?

Facebook by the Numbers

Number of current Facebook users: 800 million

Approximate date Facebook will reach 1 billion: 2012-8-12

At about the same time this summer, on 12 August, as the London Games are celebrating their closing ceremonies, Facebook is expected to reach 1 billion “active” users. The 5 billion not-wired humans will have to wait a little longer… but of the 2 billion wired, HALF of them will be Facebook users.

Crazy! Wonderful! Horrible! Amazing!

After setting that world record, and after having passed all other nations on earth, Facebook will, presumably, eventually pass China and become the largest “nation” the world has ever known. There’s a theory that Paris was the capital of the 19th century… New York City of the 20th… and that Shanghai would become the capital of the 21st century… sorry Shanghai… skip a turn… it seems that Facebook is the capital of the 21st century.

Moronic pix & smartass comments FTW!

IDK what it will be… but I think we need to do a Facebook performance artwork on 12 August…

Friend Math

Facebook Friend Math: according to FB Timeline, I added 219 friends in 2011, 142 friends in 2010, and 330 friends in 2009, the year I first joined FB on May 2.

That adds up to 691 or the number of friends I had at the end of 2011, but along the way there was the great Facebook pseudonym purge of May 2011 where I lost 129 friends overnight, preceded by the lesser Facebook pseudonym purge of January 2010.

And since the May ‘11 purge I’ve “voluntarily” deleted over 100 “friends.” So the “real” number of friends I’ve added in the last 3 years is more like 1,000, but I guess in the selective memory of Facebook, anyone who isn’t your current (and Facebook approved) friend, never existed.

Hahaha, take that Google+! And You thought YOU owned the nymwars! Wake up G+! Meet your big bro!
